Press Release Volunteers Needed
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Heritage Sandy Springs Museum and Park
Is Looking for Volunteers
Heritage Sandy Springs Museum and Park is home to the original springs of Sandy Springs. It is a community 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to preserve the history of Sandy Springs, as well as steward the community park of Heritage Sandy Springs Museum and Park, and offer culture, education, events, and outreach to the community. The organization has many areas available for volunteers, from special events, like the Heritage Sandy Springs Farmers Market and the Sandy Springs Festival, to maintaining the Park and Museum grounds, to educating Sandy Springs residents about local history through research, collecting stories, greeting museum visitors, and more.
“Our volunteers are the reason we can offer so many events and educational resources to the Sandy Springs community,” said Carol Thompson, Executive Director at Heritage Sandy Springs Museum and Park. “We hope to offer our volunteers a win-win by giving them the opportunity to make new friends, contribute to the community, educate the public, gain marketable experience, sharpen valued skills, find an outlet for creative energy, or a provide a worthwhile activity for retired folks.”
Heritage Sandy Springs Museum and Park utilizes hundreds of volunteers every year. The largest event where the most volunteers are needed is the Sandy Springs Festival, now it its 34th year.
Below is a list of volunteer events and positions:
Sandy Springs Museum
The Sandy Springs Museum is at the core of our mission to preserve the history of Sandy Springs. Volunteer positions include historic research, working with museum collections, and/or participating in our Oral History program, by learning to cultivate and record oral histories from Sandy Springs. Information packet is provided and volunteers are paired with an oral history veteran to learn the ins and outs of this position. We also need Museum Greeters and Docents (training provided).
Heritage Sandy Springs Farmers Market
The Heritage Sandy Springs Farmers market supports our mission of outreach and community. Farmers and small businesses come from all over to give our city a taste of farm life with fresh vegetables, meats, eggs and much more. Volunteers are stationed at the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum and Park’s booth to sell water and lemonade and answer visitor questions.
Garden and Park
Our park and garden spaces support our mission of stewarding the Sandy Springs Society Entertainment Lawn, our gardens, a nature walk, and the original spring of Sandy Springs. Volunteers use their horticulture and gardening skills for garden planning, planting and cultivation.
Concert by the Springs
This annual free summer concert series supports our mission to offer fun events and outreach to our community and is held one Sunday a month from May to September. Volunteer positions include help set up, greet attendees, sell beverages, direct parking, and collect donations.
Sandy Springs Festival
The Sandy Springs Festival, a tradition since 1984, supports our mission of culture, education, outreach and events. This is by far the largest event of the year for Heritage Sandy Springs Museum and Park and requires the most volunteers needed. Volunteers are needed at the Sandy Springs Lightening 10K/5K Race, the “districts” of the Festival, including children’s, cultural, food, historic, music and more.
